I was speaking with a recent client when the subject of negotiations came up.
How can I ensure that I have the “EDGE” when entering into any negotiation?
That’s when it occurred to me… he already had the answer for which he was seeking.
Let’s look more closely at what Read the rest of this entry »

This morning was spent at AI DuPont Hospital for children, where my nephew underwent surgery on his hip. About three hours after entering the prep area and three pins later, everything went well according to the doctors.
Thanks be to God!
It’s difficult surrendering power to another, and even though this Read the rest of this entry »

Previously, I have stated that when I changed the URL of my blog, I unfortunately was having a great deal of difficulty uploading my backup.
Although this has caused much frustration and time consumption, I believe I am ready to move on and put this behind me. I have definately learned many lessons from this experience and was fortunate enough to find some of my previous posts backed up in another format, and these have been provided as of last week.
I hope you enjoy these posts from the past and thank you for your patience throughout this ordeal.
This blog is, after all, for you and I hope you are finding it beneficial in your quest for success.
Until next time,
Shawn A. Morgan

Integrity…
Recently, I’ve been talking a lot about integrity in classes that I hold and it occurred to me that this is a word not spoken in many circles. In fact, in Corporate America, where I conduct a lot of my training sessions, integrity seems to be focused more on Read the rest of this entry »

I was watching the cartoon Charlie Brown the other night with my boys and two scenes really stuck out in my mind - not just from childhood memories but as life lessons for all to embrace.
The first is Snoopy as the fighting ace in search of the Red Baron. No matter how prepared he is, he always seems to get shot down.
The second is Charlie Brown and Lucy playing football. Read the rest of this entry »

Have you ever had the opportunity to see a Space Shuttle launch? It is a miraculous sight with smoke and flame and applause and cheer. It is also amazing when you consider all of the preparation and planning that goes into making a launch successful.
As we have just passed the mid-year point, I must ask what preparation and planning have you begun to insure Read the rest of this entry »

Recently, I was auditing a Leadership class, for a friend of mine, which was taking place for corporate managers, when the subject of Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs came up.
As you are probable aware, Maslow was a psychologist who came up with a pyramid identifying the core needs of humans. The foundation of the pyramid is supported by Physiological needs, to include the basics of life support such as air, water and food, and then moves up through Safety, Social, Self-Esteem and ultimately Self-Actualization.
The premise of the hierarchy is that Read the rest of this entry »

It amazes me how people set themselves up for either failure or success, and are then surprised when the outcome is as they thought from the start.
Take, for instance, giving a presentation. A client of mine was recently preparing for a presentation at work and could easily visualize everything that could go wrong.
Unfortunately, this wasn’t proactive insight, but rather negative self-talk.
Needless to say, the presentation was given and she was surprised that it didn’t go better, based on all of the “planning” she had done. When I asked her Read the rest of this entry »

A good coaching buddy of mine, Joe White, once said that “The only thing that keeps anyone from getting what they want are the stories they tell themselves over and over again about why they can’t get what they want.”
Sound familiar?
How is it that we as a society have allowed ourselves to be our worst enemies when it comes to getting what we want? Sure, we are quick to blame others for our situations but Read the rest of this entry »

“The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.”
— Albert Einstein
As we impart on a new year we inevitably consider the idea of resolutions or goals declaring how we would like the year to turn out:
• I want to lose weight
• I want a promotion
• I want to find love
• I want to find success
The question I wish to pose today Read the rest of this entry »
